Senior Congress leader and MLA EVKS Elangovan passed away this morning at a private hospital in Ramapuram, Chennai. Various political party leaders including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Congress national president Mallikarjuna Kharge, Tamil Nadu Congress president Selvapperundhakai, and Union Minister of State L. Murugan have condoled his death. 

In this situation, the body of EVKS Elangovan, which was kept in a hospital in Ramapuram, Chennai, was taken to his residence in Manapakkam. Following this, important leaders and family members are paying their respects. In this situation, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Ministers Duraimurugan, E.V.Velu and others paid their respects in person. Earlier, in a condolence message issued by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, senior leader of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and Erode East MLA EVKS. I am deeply saddened by the demise of Elangovan.

Father Periyar, Sollin Selvar E.V.K. Sampath, a member of a great political family, has served effectively in various public life positions as the President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, a member of the Legislative Assembly, a member of Parliament, and a Union Minister. He always had the ability to speak his mind. Ever since the loss of his beloved son and former MLA of Erode East, Thirumagan E.V. Ra, friend Elangovan had been mentally very broken. However, he contested and won the by-election and served the people despite his worries.

Whenever he came to see me, he never failed to say, "Take care of yourself." Whenever he said that affectionately, I would also say to him, "Take care of yourself." To this, he would reassure me by saying, "I am working even more actively after taking up the public service you entrusted to me. I participate in many programs. I am fine."

When we met in the Legislative Assembly, he would mention the schemes of our Dravidian model government and express his appreciation to me for the support they have received from the people. Even when he was ill and going to the hospital, he had expressed his desire to meet me to his wife. When I met him after knowing that, he was not in a state to speak. However, I could sense what he wanted to tell me. 

Since the day he was admitted to the hospital, I have been in touch with his son and doctors and have been getting updates on his health from time to time. In this situation, this morning, the news of his deterioration in health and subsequent death arrived. His death is very painful politically and personally. I express
my deepest condolences and comfort to his family, comrades of the Congress movement, and the people of Erode East constituency, who are grieving the loss of a prominent leader in Tamil Nadu politics for many years and who served the people for a long time,” he said. Similarly, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, Thaweka President Vijay, BJP State President Annamalai and others have expressed their condolences.
